That's Daniel walking up my street during the big ol' snowstorm we had a couple weeks ago. Ha ha !! He had to stay an extra day because the airport was closed. Marcus also stayed over because metro was shut down too.

I am borrowing my Dad's digital camera. There's more pictures to upload, including a bunch of pictures of the white side of the family.

I received the following handwritten letter today:

                                                    2/19/03
Dear Michael H. Wong,

I like to thank you for sending my wallet back to me.
I was so lost without it. You have restored my faith in
good people. Again words cannot express how thankful I
am to you. Have a wonderful day.

                                                    Crystal J------

2002-02-22 Saturday night, way way late.

So it's always been the plan: go work at NASA in DC for a couple years, then move back to California. There are very few planetary options in the Bay Area... but I managed to luck out. On Friday I officially accepted a 2 to 3 year postdoc position at UC Berkeley.

I need to call Berkeley and find out what kind of science I'll be doing. I don't really know. But at least this means I can still play around with the planets instead of subsisting on income from Walter's bizarre programming jobs or from print/web design work.

I also found out that I'm welcome to live with the VIPs over at 62 Entrada. I've enjoyed living on my own (except for the time with Jen) for the past 4 years, but I'm ready to quit that. It's very exciting to consider moving in with someone you've already shared years of history with.

In the mean time, I want to make the most of the time I have left with the incredible friends I've made in DC. I knew I would have a good time living here, but I had no idea that I would grow roots so fast and so deep.

Also in the works is a visit to Daniel for his birthday, and we're going to DEMF2003 in May. I think I also need to get in some visits to NYC and Boston while I'm still out here.

I get nervous sometimes. My life is so good, so full of love. I hope it stays that way.

resolution v1.0 (solar):2 Whatever.

resolution v2.0 (lunar): Be capable of sudden positive change. Mainly in terms of making commitments, and reducing lazy procrastination. STOPPING things. Like Marcus does. Marcus recently stopped drinking.

Mathematically, my resolution is to have a higher acceleration, where F = ma. I guess the usual definition of laziness is sort of like having insufficient force to get moving. But... if you could somehow "lose weight" then the same weak force could achieve greater acceleration. This makes sense to me, but I can't explain it any better so I'll have to leave it as a metaphor.3

Drinking is not bad.
Being unable to stop drinking is bad.

2Resolution v1.0 is hereby obsoleted and replaced with resolution 2.0.
3Hmmm. But it is somehow like the other motto of judo, "maximum efficiency minimum effort."
