INFLIGHT AUDIO
Tue Jun 7 19:45 PDT 2005

Sorry if you've been spammed about this already, but I'm spinning this Friday at EZ5. I made a spiffy new website to promote the night, inflightaudio.com. How could I not, when domain registration is only $6/year at 1and1.com? And last night William invited me to sub a show with him on KPFA, so I got to shamelessly promote the event on the air. The radio show was fun, and I saved the playlist.

work graphics:

So today at work I spent some time making presentation graphics for my advisor. She is going to give some talks in Bern, including a presentation of some of the work I've been doing, so I created the colortable above to colorize her greyscale infrared images. I wonder if any of the people at the conference will think "Electroclash." Here is one of the figures I made using the new colortable:

I hope I don't get in trouble for posting that. Heh heh. It's just an Lp-band albedo map of Callisto taken at Keck using adaptive optics, but it's not published yet.

And then another weird thing happened in one of those precious moments when I wasn't playing weboggle: I discovered a smiling ... sausage ... in what was supposed to be Jupiter data. The image is just part of a 16-bit data quality bitmask for a spectrum of Jupiter's ring in our Spitzer data. Unfortunately, the sausages are composed of yucky data quality bit values.

And I may have a couple more dj gigs coming up: 26mix this Saturday (Peter's coworker's graduation party) and maybe EZ5 again on Friday June 10th. Except Marcus will be in town on the 10th (w00t !!) so I must make sure it's ok with him before I can confirm that. Daniel said if Marcus gets bored, he'll take him to eat at Chinatown restaurants nearby, and Anne said that she can take him to the SF equivalent of ladies' night at Chaos.

I went with Jenny to see Stereo Total last night. The stage lights for much of the show were red and blue, reminding me of my new desktop background (see above). We saw Cathy and Christina in line, but never found them again inside, and Cha-Cha was there too. It was a great show, except for some audience members who were extremely drunk (I could smell it) and under the influence of something else too, probably. They were trying, a little too violently, to have a good time. As in slam-dancing with beer bottles in hand and stomping people's toes. But they knew a lot more Stereo Total songs than I did, so they weren't just gatecrashers. And after one guy yelled "You smashed my foot" and possibly slapped one of the drunk girls (I think that was why she was holding her face), Françoise Cactus stopped the song they were playing, called for attention, and said "Eeef somebody smash your foot, you still have a lot of foot."

Ok, that's a lot of text. Here's one more desktop background that I don't think I've posted on here before:

I added two albums to the photo section: Peter's birthday and my bike after it got stripped for parts just now on the street in Soma.

And please, for the love of all that is not a complete mind-numbing waste of time, do NOT visit weboggle.shackworks.com.

APAture deadline is coming up in June, DPS abstract deadline is coming up at the end of June, me and Daniel are moving in June, and it's generally time to panic. I'll be teaching Astro 10 again, and I think there is a popfest coming up.

Quick post, since I'm late to dinner right now. The 33 1/3rd birthday party at EZ5 was super fun, and many crucial people came by and said happy birthday. At the end, the lounge boss asked me if I wanted to spin on a Saturday, since another of his DJs had cancelled. So... It's coming up...

Come by if you want to lounge and or dance to whatever records I bring to the club. Here's the map showing the streets around EZ5:
